Ready for Fall!

Hello everyone and welcome to fall!

It is always a great time of year when the leaves start to change colors, the animals store food for the coming months and the landscape changes to ready itself for  winter.  On the Mississippi River, our barge will be moving south for the colder months.  Beginning in November, we will host river cleanups in Lousiana!  Our crew has not been to this area since Hurricane Katrina but are happy to be going back.  We will be working with the community and some of our sponsors to remove debris from the lower Mississippi River.  It shall be a challenging but rewarding time!

Also this fall, we will host tree plantings of native harwood trees.  This coming weekend we will be planting 300 trees in the Quad Cities with Big Brother-Big Sisters, Americorps volunteers and Boy Scouts.  We will then travel east the following weekend to Starved Rock State Park in Utica, IL to host an annual tree planting on Plum Island.  October will not only bring river cleanups and tree plantings but we will host 3 Green Revolution conferences with high school students.  These conferences will be hosted in St. Paul, MN; Peoria, IL and Paducah, KY!  There are spaces still available if you know of a high school that would be interested in attending.  Details and registration for these events can be found on our website!

All in all, we will have a busy fall and we're looking forward to the challenges and rewards!  If you are interested in finding out how you can be invovled, please visit the Living Lands & Waters' website at www.livinglandsandwaters.org

Thank you for your support and we hope to see you on the river!
