Oct 23, 2008 03:13 pm

It's not often you get to tell your friends you're opening for Pearl Jam. Ok, so that's a bit of an exageration, but I still got to feel like a bit of a celebrity last weekend. On Saturday night, I took part in Timberland's Dig It! a day of tree-planting, community service, and a kicking par... Continue reading Rocking out at Timberland's Dig It!

As an public educator I think 350.org are one of the most motivating actions around. A very pedagogical approach and a way to go from words to action. Thank you!

Raising awareness of the meaning and importance of "350" is really important. Perhaps we should identify 350 ways people can help to 'Get to 350'. These could be categorized by home, office, school, business, community, etc. or by how much time it would take--e.g. got 1 min, do this; got 5 mins, do this, etc. As you point out, it will take many changes on the part of all of us and the systems we spend our lives supporting in order to accomplish this change in a relatively short time frame. We have to make this seem very important but also doable for people. Channeling the voices of many takes your voice and energy and internet savvy; channeling behavior change takes all of us demanding that systems make it easier to change and provide incentives to sustain the change. I'm with ya!

The 350 message is important work. Please also tell a fuller story of how we lost our connection with the earth. Culture and society was taken over by mass market conditioning that the economy is dependent on more and more consumption. Study history of the 20th century. 1939 World's Fair in NY laid out the world of tomorrow model brought to all by General Motors. We built this century on cars and roads and the need to find ever increasing supplies of oil. We take the earth, atmosphere and water to much for granted. Create new culture life sustaining and never give up protecting the earth.
