Several days ago I had the pleasure of going on a Soundwalk organized by the New York Society of Acoustic Ecology and led by Andrea Williams.  This was part of The Canary Project's 43/70 events.  If you are not familiar with the Soundwalks or with the New York Society for Acoustic Ecology, I suggest you check out their website.

The Soundwalk encourages you to open you ears to the sound of the neighborhood and focuses on transitions, leading you from (in my case) Crown Heights to Prospect Park, with various listening excercises worked in.  The walk becomes like a score as you instictively make patterns from the sounds, parsing bass notes from treble and rhythms from melody.

You have a chance to experience a Soundwalk tomorr at 5:30 pm at The Old American Can Factory in Brooklyn.  Please come.  The soundwalk will be followed by a presentation of all the 43/70 events at the Old American Can Factory with a discussion Mc'd by me and involving the artists plus Amy Lipton and Tom Agnotti.  Read more about it here
