In June during our trip to Barcelona, we stopped in and visited Petz Scholtus. Click here to see a video of our visit.
Petz is one of those leaders you are beginning to find in every city. She calls herself an eco-designer, but design is only part of what she does. She energizes the people around her and leads by example. (We initiated a search for a studio visit / interview with people doing creative work in sustainability, and nearly everyone point towards Petz). She is a rare example of someone who practices what she preaches.
Take her apartment for example. Not only has she made every effort to research and acquire (where affordable) the best, least emitting, least environmentally damaging household item, she has blogged about it extensively so that others can learn from her choices. Click here to check out the blog (http://www.r3project-english.blogspot.com/). She even has a project name for her flat renovation: the R3 Project. In her words:
"The flat really exists so you can follow the research, analysis, final decisions and practicality of eco concepts and products available to renovate a flat and live in it in a sustainable way. The blog will create a dynamic diary / guide for everyone to participate by commenting (so please do!)."
The Canary is homeless at the moment, floating between New York and Cambridge, where we will start a fellowship in the Fall. And it is a good thing. Because if we invited you into our home we would be shamed by the example of Petz. No not shamed, inspired.
