The flood waters have receded and the U.S. Midwest region has been cleaning up the debris left behind. Living Lands & Waters has been on the Cedar River to help for the past 3 weeks. In the time our crew spent there, we have removed tons of garbage including furniture, plastic barrels, police riot gear, children's toys and anything else you can find in your home.
The stretch of river that we have been working on is clear of this debris! It is hard to describe what we saw and felt but we are grateful for all of the volunteers that helped us accomplish this great task. We are tired but feel amazing. It is such a great feeling to help a community recover from such a disaster and know that we can make a difference in the lives of people who have lost everything.
Cleanup in the flooded areas is still underway. There are buildings to be repaired, paint to be applied and communities to be rebuilt. The people of the midwest are strong and are working hard to keep each other going.
For more information on LL&W's cleanup efforts, check out the website (www.livinglandsandwaters.org). You can view pictures in my photo album and on the LL&W website.
Thank you for your support!
Joseph,
I work for Chad here and LL&W and upkeep this webpage for Changents. (Even though it hasn't been updated lately.) I will talk to Chad and see what information we can get to you. I do have a packet of information on how to organize community river cleanups if you'd like me to mail something to you.
Chad is a wealth of information on how to get started and what you'll face in the process. Once I get a chance to talk to him, I will get back to you. He is around here somewhere today so I will try to pin him down for a moment. :)
Thanks for your interest in our project and I hope that yours is very successful! Email us or call (309.496.9848) anytime!

Hey Chad,
I met you years ago when I lived in Andalusia, IL accross the Mississippi from Davenport. I asked for your autograph and you signed my US Atlas on the Illinois page! Great to see you are still at it :)
We hope to be able to contribute to one portion of cleaning up the environment with our cigarette butt invention (we call it "The Butt Sucker", but the patent attorneys had a hard time calling it that).
Keep up the great work!
Sarah

Hey Chad, I think all you are doing is great. I am trying to get started on cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay and the many rivers here in Virginia. I was wandering if you had some advise that I could benefit from. Thanks man, hope to here from you soon.
