As many of you know artist, partner and Creative Director D. Banfield and myself have been organizing for the past few months to make Crescent City Art Project the movement we believe it can be. After many months of work we recently became welcomed into The Art Miles Mural Project/Endangered Plant Foundation family. It is truly an honor and a source of great excitement to be among such dedicated, talented and humble individuals. We know this collaborative partnership will foster our growth and enact drastic change in the landscapes here in New Orleans. To Joanne Tawfilis at The Art Miles Mural Project and all others that made this partnership a reality, we could not be more grateful and thankful for your advocacy; we are indebted.
The excitement continues...
For D. and I this work is indeed our passion and our personal and professional mission. The reality on the ground in New Orleans for the youth is difficult to swallow. No individual should be forced to learn in such abysmal conditions; trailers and chain link fences have no place in any academic setting (for pics see our site www.crescentcityartprojects.webs.com ). It is because of this that we have mobilized around art to reintroduce color, art and imagination into these environments. With this being our goal, yesterday was one of the greatest days for Crescent City Art Project. Starbucks in coming to New Orleans in October and we received confirmation yesterday that they will be doing a project with us on Oct. 27th & 29th. Not only that 1,600 (yes 1,600) Starbucks volunteers will be
serving with us!! With a number of this size the potential is huge.
On Oct. 27th
- 85 murals at 3 sites, engaging 250 volunteers
On Oct 29th at the New Orleans Convention Center, in 2 hours of we
will complete:
- 1,000 canvass murals, with the potential to do 1,400 if time permits
(24x36 & 36x36) --> we plan on setting & breaking a Guinness Book
World Record for most paintings in one day!
- 125 Mosaic benches
The products of which will impact:
- 25 schools! with each school getting 56 images and 5 mosaic benches
to form an outdoor reading area
Needless to say it has been an exciting couple of weeks. Now it is time to get down to work. There will be more emails to come. If you
have free time come out and help!
The best wishes to you all,
Tim White
