Meet Diana

As we come down to the wire in Haiti, I find myself in a bit of a hurry up and wait scenario. Today is a great example. After a completely manic morning scheduling events and writing briefs for volunteers and partners who will be helping EDV keep growing, it’s now 2:45 in the afternoon and I am stuck just waiting on videos to upload, emails to be returned, and my tired brain to re-generate after hours of grant writing.

I’ll probably have more afternoons like this – and I thought these little lulls might be a great opportunity to introduce you to the students in our English and Scholarship Porgrammes.

Meet Diana. Diana is 13 years old, and she has been living at the Foyer d’Orelph Orphanage with her sister and brother since the earthquake. She doesn’t talk much about her parents, and we aren’t sure what happened to them.

As one of the older girls living in the orphanage she helps the younger kids when it’s time for them to take baths. She also braids their hair.

Diana says that if she could visit any place it would be the United States, in hopes that she could learn to speak English fluently. Her favourite color is pink and she likes studying math in school. When she grows up she wants to be a wife and a nurse.

You can learn more about how EDV is helping Diana, and how you can help Diana, by visiting http://www.edvolunteers.org/scholarships.
