Calling All Change Agents!

The end of 2009 also marks the close of the public comment period for New York's Department of Environmental Conservation's Draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (dSGEIS) -- the 803-page document that claims to offer a "safe" way to regulate oil and gas exploration and exploitation, specifically hydraulic fracturing for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale.

Marcellus Shale

Green Guerrillas do not want gas drilling anywhere... NOT in our backyards, and NOT in your backyards either.

Natural gas drilling using high volume, high pressure, slick water hydraulic fracturing affects 31 states directly... and everyone else indirectly.  The Marcellus Shale stretches from New York to Tennessee.  We are asking for all who can to take a few moments to check out the latest news and SIGN ON to the Coalition Letter requesting that New York Governor Paterson WITHDRAW the dSGEIS:

We will continue to keep you posted, and encourage you to get informed and involved in 2010.

I just added my name. And I just want to thank you guys for fighting this issue so adamantly...and even more important, sharing with the Changents community the dangers of natural gas drilling. To be honest, I had no idea it was an issue until you guys (literally) spelled it out for me. I've read TONS of discussion on this issue and a lot of eco people are actually for it (which is bizarre) but thanks to your articles and videos, I am AGAINST it and proud of it.

THANKS Eleanor! Yes, many people are "for" it because they do not realize that natural gas extraction is such a dirty game... after all, the commercials make it look so good, right? And just about everybody is for "clean" energy, but without understanding that to be clean really means completely transforming how we view our resource use we are only going to fall for more false solutions. Hopefully, Copenhagen exposed more folks to the reality of what fossil fuel dependency really means, how our choices impact ALL life on this planet, and why it is imperative that we actively engage in more sustainable lifestyle choices and RENEWABLES NOW! Natural gas exploration and exploitation is the bridge to no-where, and our futures depend on real, substantive change by ALL of us. And for those who argue that renewables are unrealistic... remember that abolitionists in the 1800s were told the same thing about slavery. Change is not always easy, but it is certainly necessary. To all who have been following our posts and getting involved... thanks for joining us and participating... here's to collectively building better bridges in 2010!
