Hi. I wanted to add a few other things we've done to be "green". After talking to Jess about how to introduce more Green ways of living we bought an eco friendly dishwasher which uses a lot less water than your average dishwasher and we've replaced most of old our lightbulbs with compact flourescent bulbs. Also, I only use organic shampoos for my son and am starting to use an organic shampoor for my hair as well. We buy only organic dish washing liquid and laundry detergent. Also, I buy these fabulous baby wipes that are all natural and biodegradable (Nature Babycare).

i live in a dorm, and eat in a dining hall. when i'm in a rush, it's so tempting to just take some of their disposable plastic dishes and eat on the run. but learning from Jess, i've been more conscious about the impact of my actions on the environment. lately, i've been bringing my own Tupperware or travel mugs instead of using a new paper cup each time. it's actually really nice--not only better for the environment, but it makes me think twice about how i eat and how much space i make to take care of myself in the midst of the madness of a Harvard schedule. thank you!

I have 2 kids and based on Jess's recommendations I am going to make suggesstions to my daughter's teachers to be more conscious of these issues in the the classroom.

At work we have a water cooler and Jess suggested I bring in a water bottle to refill instead of using multipule cups.

We had a guest from southern Morocco staying with us for a couple of months, where water is a precious resource. He showed us how to wash the dishes using barely any water. Fill a small tub with warm dishwashing water. Turn off the water. Wash everything up using that small amount of water, and then rinse quickly with cold water. Also makes your soap last a lot longer. And, you can do the same thing when you take a shower, or brush your teeth!

Jess' "What did YOU do today?" campaign inspired me to speak up yesterday. I asked several different landscaping/gardening trucks [parked with their engines running while the men ate lunch) to please shut their engines. Once they understood why it made a difference they were happy to do so. So easy to" Green a Little, Change a Lot".

From BU School of Public Health Professor and Public Awareness Campaign expert, Dr Michael Siegel: "Hi Jess, Thanks for letting me take a look at this. This is such a change from reviewing my students' work because it is such a fabulous, professionally designed campaign that really draws upon social marketing principles. It is not only well-designed, but the pitch is crisp and effective. I think the overall philosophy behind the campaign is a great one and is evidence-based. As I would describe it, this campaign draws upon the idea of Social Cognitive Theory. The main concept in social cognitive theory is that of self-efficacy. People will not undertake a behavior unless they believe that they can do that behavior. Self-efficacy is the belief that one is capable of carrying out a behavior. One of the biggest problems in environmental campaigns is that people simply don't think they are capable of doing the requisite action. And/or they feel that they cannot make a difference. The basis of this entire campaign is that each person can make a difference and that it's really easy to do so. You only need to do a little, which you're capable of." Read more on the story page.

Jess You asked us what moment, why we decided to "get involved". For me, it's simple. As the father of three, I want my children to live in a healthier environment than we do. Your ideas are easy.
