What did YOU do?

So, I'm asking everyone to post what green action they take every day- it's part of the very beginning of the campaign idea! I put it up in the action request (if you want to read more) and I'm sharing here so if you're reading this, please take a sec to comment on what you did today- or plan to do tomorrow! that had a little green in it.

As for me today, I...

walked instead of drove to pick something up (and nearly got hit by a car in the dark!)

refused plastic and any disposables, and explained why I was doing so when buying food, and requested to bring back takeout containers to be reused if they gave them to me

(they said they want to go green, but might not be allowed to reuse the containers due to hygiene issues, and are looking into it)

requested that same restaurant go greener and use compostable/biodegradable containers

convinced bullheaded close relative to stop running hot water in the washing machine and to take some of the recyclables out of the trash

unplugged everyone's chargers when no one was looking  (note- I do not advise this if it will bring on aggression from others :)

enjoyed nature thoroughly and felt thankful (imho, this is a green action!)

At the end of the work day, I turn off lights in empty offices as I leave and I have started turning off the light in the storage closet and copy room on my floor when no one is using them.

I turn off my computer as soon as I'm done using it and don't leave my chargers or laptop plugged in!

Also, last year I got so fed up with all the junk mail I was receiving (it's annoying AND it kills trees!) that I looked up a way to stop it...for good. I strongly suggest everyone goes to this website and follow the instructions to get off those mailing lists. You'll need to send a letter to a mailing association, but trust me...it works! I've been junk mail free for more than a year. I must've saved at least a few trees by now, right?!

So I had to comment again....I was watching Colin and Carrick's video on public transportation and I was amazed to learn how much your car pollutes while waiting in line to pay a toll. I figured now would be a great time to sign up for the EZ-Pass program on the Mass Pike so I never have to waste time/fuel/pollute more just to keep driving on the highway!

My office has decided not to collect the trash every day (uses less plastic), get rid of the cardboard cups and bring our own mugs for the kitchen, and use only sustainable catering companies. I'm also committing to riding my bike to work as soon as this snow melts!!!

I biked to work, reused paper for another project, and made my own cleaner with water, vinegar, and castille soap.

Installed low flow (1.5 gpm) "water sense" swivel sprayer on my kitchen sink faucet; repaired leaky toilet flapper that, apparently, was wasting a lot water--and hiking my water bill.
