The Calling For Unity!

Mar 11, 2010 12:22 pm

Over the last several months all of here at Global Diabetic Awareness have looked for ways to get not only our message across as it pertains to awareness and education but also to get everyone to understand why a true grassroots initiative would work for doing just that, raising awareness and education in this world as it relates to diabetics and diabetes. Let me explain to everyone why we have chosen to continually use the term diabetics in our organizational names as well as initiatives. To begin with personally I do call myself a diabetic, Patti my wife tells people I am a diabetic and to be honest it doesn't bother me to hear the name. I would rather be called a diabetic then hear someone say "oh you live with diabetes!" I don't live with diabetes, I live with Patti my wife and our children. Diabetes is an unwanted guest that I can't get rid of at this point. It ends up costing us a great amount of money in medications and food and beats us down emotionally daily, all of us. If I could evict this bad tenant who doesn't pay for anything, just feeds off of me and my family I would but I can't. So for me this is a personal fight for me as a diabetic and for all diabetics in the world. That is why we as a group have chosen to stick with using DIABETIC or DIABETICS in our organizational names and initiatives, except for one new initiative that is very important to us and this world. This logo and the latest logo  seen to the right, which is still using the same theme are both using the word DIABETES. Since the main theme here is unity in the name 1 Disease! World! Voice! Diabetes was obvious for the disease. The important fact is I don't want people to think we are moving away from our mission of fighting this on a personal side. By using the term diabetes we are still fighting for the diabetic who has to live with this disease everyday. Our mission to attack the personal side of awareness and education still stands tall with very deep meaning to us. Our mission is about the person living with this disease, the diabetic. It is about the family and friends who surround that diabetic on a daily basis and helping them to understand this disease better not only to aid the diabetic fighting the disease but for them to handle the daily ups and downs for their loved one or ones and for them, the caregivers. Yes it's the hidden disease which makes it easy for many to hide behind it. It doesn't always show on the outside so we can walk around for days and no one would know we have it. Imagine, no none can tell we are sick when we are. Makes it way to easy to hide behind this free loader and keep it bottled up. Well the calling is now. The calling is for us to stand up to this free loader in our lives and change it. It's time to take ownership and kick it out or at the very least live around it. It doesn't have to control us or consume us. It is our life and it is time to take it back. In the end the calling is  a united front to rid the world of this disease and help all diabetics live. As for the cure, it will be here one day but till then we have to live and live it will be. Through our efforts every diabetic out there will learn to live. Enjoy another day of excitement, intensity, love, hope and fulfilling dreams that they have had for years. It isn't time to quit. It is time to revive yourself and get life now! Unite, hear the calling and join in the fight to educate, raise awareness and live a full and exciting life. Diabetes or being a diabetic isn't boring in the least and we all know that but is it exciting. It can be every single day of our life. Somedays to exciting. Get on the band wagon and join or start a group in your area. Contact us and get involved a community or start one.  We started a bicycle club this week, so far we have 3 clubs in California and a possible one in Ohio. Within one day we were able to get almost 4 groups confirmed. A good start to a new plan.  Get involved in one of our projects now. Make a difference and change lives. Save lives and change the world. Thanks Mark
