So here we are again at my new gig as a product reviewer. Heck I have enough problems writing my regular stuff, and then when it comes time to write a review I have to shift my head around and write with a different attitude.
Well with the product I am about to write about I can actually write in my regular style of thinking diabetes and diabetics since this product is all about our lives and organization. God knows I need organization and a better case then plastic baggies, even if they are the freezer kind.
Myabetic came to my attention a little over a week ago when a friend of mine Zoey, an artist in Southern California sent me an email introducing me to Lauren Ziminsky. He introduced us so I could tell her about some of my projects and he felt she could help me with some connections. I don't know if he knew what was going to come of it. I know Lauren and I didn't know till we talked.
But let me go back a little first and tell you about Myabetic. I am not going to give you the entire story because I really want you to go to their site and read about Kyrra and Lauren yourselves but I will give you a little taste, because this post is about their product.
Kyrra Richards the Co-Founder is a professional dancer and teacher. In 2007 she traveled to Afghanistan and Qatar to perform for our servicemen and women. Upon her return she found herself having those symptoms we have all come to know, insatiable thirst and appetite, while still losing weight. Sound familiar? Well she was checked and you can figure the rest out. Diagnosed Type1. While dealing with this she started to think about ways to live with this and also ways to carry her insulin pens and the rest of our usual goody bags. The great thing about Kyrra is instead of using my technique and using the freezer zip lock she decided to do something about it and started to draw cases that would be practical and affordable to everyone of every age. BOOM, Myabetic is launched with her friend Lauren Ziminsky. Remember this is the Readers Digest version, go and read the full version.
Okay so here's how I get to review the product. After Lauren and I exchanged e-mails we talked and I was so impressed with her, Kyrra's story and the product I decided we should work with them. They are new innovative and want to make a difference. My type of friends and company. Lauren and Kyrra agree to be involved in our initiatives by donating cases when needed and I decide I need to really check this cases out. Especially since the zipper lock bags are getting old.
Lauren and Kyrra send me two cases to check out. The Express and the Cole. Let me begin by telling you what impressed me from the beginning. It wasn't just the idea of sending me the cases, it was how they were packed. I expected a box with a couple of cases (I didn't know which ones she was sending) wrapped in bubble wrap or something like paper. Well each case was wrapped in plastic s expected but what really impressed me was that they were also wrapped with white paper to protect the cases during shipping and then placed inside the plastic wrap. Already up a few notches in my book for professionalism and thought. Next, like a kid at Christmas I ripped the plastic and the paper away to find the cases to be perfect for a guy who wants to be organized and still look good. Something I haven't done in a while.
The Express (right here on the left) was perfect for a day trip or your daily work where you want something small and neat that fits into your pocket, briefcase or whatever you carry around during the day. If you are like me since I have started using the Express, it is at my desk constantly ready to go when I am and it follows me around as I travel. When I opened the case it was perfect for carrying syringes, insulin, a meter if you wanted to opt for that and the rest of our gear. The best thing I can say is perfect for the day. I can pick and choose what I want to carry in the cases and know it will keep me organized and look good. The cases is black on the outside and the inside was, I want to say a dark mauve, but colors aren't my best attribute( there will be a video at the end). Just know the Express is perfect in my book. Built tough and to withstand my abuse of the case for the week. The elastic to hold the insulin or test strips is strong unlike some of the meter cases I have used where the test strips fall out of the holder. Not in the Express. I found them to withstand some serious yanking and pulling by my Grand Daughter, Novalee and she can ruin anything in under 1 minute.
The Cole (right over there on the right) was the next step to perfection. A case you would feel great traveling with on a long trip. Again built to withstand the Grand Daughter and rand Father test of abuse. Everything worked like a charm and better than a zip lock bag. Sorry Kyrra and Lauren, don't mean to compare the Myabetic case to a zip lock but...
To be honest I have checked out many bags since getting diagnosed. Patti, my lovely wife always keeps showing me something new that looks good and would be better than zip lock but nothing has caught my attention like the cases from Myabetic. When I thought about that just now and thinking you guys are out there saying sure he gets two cases, of course he is going to say great things. You need to remember who this is. I have no sponsors or donors and I have the freedom to say what I want about who I want because of that. I research everyone we bring into our organization and I stand behind them and my opinion. Just so you don't think you can buy me with a product, you can't!
These cases are the best I have seen in a while and it isn't just looks. It is the outside material, the linings, the elastic holders the zippers and everything else. Everything met my destruction test with Novalee to my high standards. If it can outlast her, I want it. I want it now! Oh right I have it. Sorry. You want it and you want it now!
Of course they make cases for the women out there and already my daughter who is borderline diabetic but checks herself regularly wants one, she just hasn't decided which one for Patti and I to buy her for her birthday. Typical of her to really be picky.
Then there is a cases for little girls that is adorable as my kids and Patti say, and okay I'll admit it I agree. It really is. There is also a case that allows for a picture on the front of it which I really liked since I wanted to put a statement about how I feel in there when people look at me. Something to the effect of YES I AM DIABETIC, SO WHAT? Or something a little less politically correct (seriously folks, check it out to the right and tell me you wouldn't to add something poetic for people to read!). I can't though.
Anyway look folks, I have added pictures and a video. For me to describe the products would be truly unfair to Kyrra and Lauren. Their descriptions on their web site are so dead on it isn't funny. To be honest take their descriptions and add another 1000% to them and that's what these cases are all about.
In closing these words come to mind...Quality, Standards, Organization, Giving Back, Community, Caring, Love.
They really do care about making a diabetics life better, more organized, easier and they show their love of their company and product in each and every case.
