eliminate gas powered leaf blowers and reduce use of gas powered lawn mowers

I am on a mission to eliminate gardening tools/methods that do damage to the environment. I am starting with an attempt to have the city of Boston eliminate the use of gas powered (two stroke engine) leaf blowers and restrict the use of gas powered lawn mowers to only large scale green spaces.

Good for you Mary Beth! The gas-powered lawn equipment is noisy and annoying, and the pollution they cause is astounding. My son Carrick and I made a video called 'Reel Mowers Cut Down Pollution' that talks about all the reasons to switch from a gas-powered mower to a reel mower, and it is now being used by several national reel mower companies to convince people to make the switch! You can check it out on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2qpuGm_0dg Good luck! Colin McCullough www.OurRenewableNation.org

I cannot recall how many times I've been walking down the street and seen a gas powered leaf blower being used for...nothing. In any season! Even in snow. And always felt like I was choking on the fumes, and felt bad for the operator's lungs and the previously cleaner air. I don't get it. This should definitely be something that's addressed asap, mowers as well. In a city that doesn't need manicured lawns and has a lot of great environmentally friendly options that are alternatives to leaf blowers and mowers! How about rakes? (I personally like to let the leaves protect flower beds, etc and stay where they are for the winter.:)
