My recent Africa travels have involved some very different types of activities, each in its own way helping to transform the face of Africa. I’m excited to tell you here about one of them.     During 2009 I had the pleasure to be invited to evaluate two pilot projects funded by the W... Continue reading Let there be Light!

Thank you for sharing this great update! We are seeing, more than ever, that micro-financing and grassroots projects can be as successfully scaled as larger projects of formal NGOs. Cheers to World Bank for making good on their promise to change people's lives. Given your interest in Africa, it might be cool for you to check out http://changents.com/kopernik. They are a crowd-funding online tech store helping technology, like the NURU lights, reach rural communities! They take local groups and put them in touch with innovative technology companies who are willing to go the extra mile (second gen). I'm going to check out the videos now :)

Hi Jen Great to hear from you and I just visited your website. Congratulations for creating this tech store! If you would like me to introduce you to Sameer and his colleagues to see if there can be synergy, I'd be happy to do so. Nice to see Poland honored - I worked in that beautiful country in the early nineties and was blown away by the hospitality of my Polish hosts. All the best, midi

Hi Midi, I'm actually not a part of Kopernik, but promoting their awesome work! Perhaps I can put one of the founders in touch with you or if you'd like you can leave them a message on Changents (http://changents.com/kopernik). However, that being said, I do have a bit of Polish in me :)

Ah, a fellow bridge person, eh?! Weaving our webs of connection... I'll send the people at NURU the Kopernik website link and they can take it from there. All the best to you, Midi

Hi Zaman! Thanks for telling me about yourself and thanks too for the valuable work you do. Poverty has an ugly face wherever it is found, but my own expertise and focus has been in Africa. I will pass your website details on to people who are working in Bangladesh. Kind regards, Midi
