Hi, everyone! My name is Sara Moore. I am part of a team developing a local, sustainable organic livestock farm named Woolley Farms, located just outside of Sedro-Woolley, Washington. We have grass-fed, pastured, organic lamb for sale seasonally. We raise a beautiful flock of heritage breed sheep, organic spinach seed, several goats, pigs, chickens and ducks, and we also have a gray miniature donkey named Precious.
Woolley Farms has been in operation for almost four years. It was a dairy farm before we got it, and was managed organically. The farm property lies in a flood plain in Skagit County, so we have to be ready for water at any time. Focus areas include the animal shelters, fencing, barns, buildings and grounds and are looking for volunteer labor, materials, building expertise, garden help, animal care interns and people interested in fiber arts and other value-added activities.
Much of our pastureland is leased to a friend and neighbor for grass-fed organic cattle. We are working on a healthy rotational grazing system for the animals, incorporating permaculture design principles, plants and people. The animals provide labor, fiber, eggs, dairy, field fertility, tilling, and other benefits. Some ideas we are exploring are honeybees, yarn, dye plants, making specialty doll clothes (high-end anime-themed dolls are popular) or household items (throws, pillows, upholstery fabric). People with project ideas and not enough land are especially encouraged to contact the farm.
