Tanya Fields Euglogy of a Sunflower

Sep 22, 2009 07:43 pm

Dwaine and I had been in the lot for about two hours now. My son was crying, my daughters digging random holes to seek out slimy earthworms. I was tired but we needed to plant the sunflowers. I couldn’t wait to see those big beautiful Mammoth Russians. I had already visualized them standing tall, proud, a mirage of beauty in a barren... Continue reading Euglogy of a Sunflower

This piece of writing is beautiful, Tanya. I can feel your frustration and god, if I was in your position I would be furious! I guess the only thing I can say is that there will be more sunflowers. And down with lawnmowers. They are super-polluters anyways!

Just a Quick, Shout Out From A Very Inspired Chan gent, Inspired By " all the buzz " That Was Out And About In The Streets, From My Perspective Here In' "Bethlehem, PA. There Just Happened To Be 5 or 6, People Who I had Great Down To Go Old Conversations with. For One These Fascinating Folks Had Not Been Near A Computer In Quiet Some Time, But These Folks Know What's Up. One I'll Share I met In The Local Post Office Very Skillfully Doing Her' Part For The The Cause At Heart, She Would Scan The Thrash Bins And When Ever Any-one Would Throw There Spent used boxes in to the trash. Like a cat after her prey" this Unique Person would, Snatch up the empty box and ad it to, what was a HUGE collection of fine Products. For putting items in and mailing them again. I bet by Days End (I stayed and observed for a good hour and a Half.) That This Person Easy Had Collected about two large Pick Up Trucks worth that would Have Trouble Fitting Them in the both of them. I found out after Dark that a large dump Truck came and joyfully "like he was on a pre arranged route, picking up his days check. I bring this up as testament to the "BUZZ" I feel out and about "People are really get the feeling on there own , about the "Over Fact" that not only do we all have to do our part, but in doing so'' there's very creative Ways of turning this chore into "TRULY GREEN" ways, of putting these Ideas of CHANGE not only together for the obvious ' But the For The WIN WIN Ideology of it , Thank you "SCOTT HARRISON" for showing the way as you walk the walk of CHANGE.. "The Birds That Year Had Eaten, All My Seeds" Tanya, Just a Word of Optimism, about your recent trek back to your, expected awesome veiw, and understandably excitement, about seeing your Beautiful Sunflower!! I know a tiny bit a-bout certain flower's and let me know if I'm Mistaken? Because your liable to return to the same area next year perhaps at viewing time, as you did this year. We all know things like this can happen when where speaking of NATURE. And with NATURE so many things are possible. Well This is what I want to tell you "I've wittnessed in my 40 something years as an avid weed grower" (when I was Of Those Years) and I recall one later summer Harvest. I came to see my 'what I had expected to be a big bounty of my weed planting.Well Obviosly with my diffent but natral plant source, I too, was very bummed to see my nature raveged, by what had to of been birds!! Who had eaten all my wonderful seeds, that I had so maticulosly planted. Behold ,,, The Following year at about the sametime I had been so bummed.I was in the very same "area" where these Birds most of done more then eaten my seeds, because to my AWESOME amazment was 4times the Amout of the most Beautiful Flowers to me,(WEEDS) to someothers. Growing all over the Area of where I had originatly plated the year before. I trust with-out to much Imagination, you may know what had takin place. The Birds that Had Eaten the Seeds had performed one of Natures Farming Miracels for me. By digesting my seeds and then (reinvesting them for me)so to speak, spreading them all over the original area. Which is my point about your Sunflower Seeds that if I'm not mistaken are what those sparrows love eating them right out of the face of the Sun Flower. Which is where I believe eatable sunflower seeds originaly come from? So just a shared testimonial, of why not to give up on your years planting of your Flower's, that had been eaten by birds also!! As we all know who take the time to share our feelings and goals. That Mother Nature is one special HigherPower.I hope at best my experiance may give you a slice of Sun Shine, on your feelings of your recent experience, Your Friend. PeterJames Frank "the sparrows ate them all." About two months ago, Maria Clark of the Hunts Point Express pointed out to me what I thought was a weed. It wasn’t. I referred to her as “my sunflower”, I was proud of her. Through dog poop, urine and under foot she was determined to grow."

Tanya - Love the work you are doing. Have you ever considered working with companies to get urban farming going on Living Roofs? If not, do you think that type of project would interest you? If so, I'd love to help make it happen. -Brandon - Greenzu.com – Your Green Business Toolkit

I live in Louisville, Kentucky--I'm a landscape and vegetable gardener and reading teacher and I've been interested in getting something like this started here. I was thrilled to learn about your project and also about a project here in my own city that assists immigrants from all over the world by letting them grow food in a community garden. It eases some of the alienation and homesickness people feel in a foreign land if they can do something familiar and sustaining like grow their own food that they're used to! Also the teens got together and built a beautiful cistern--kids from lands which may have been at war--and now they are very close. Gardening only seems small. It's never small! When we garden, we participate with God in creation! Blessings on your wonderful project(s)!

Tanya, You are an inspiration to the rest of us to get up off our butts!! Keep going girl! Also, are you going to be near Boston/Cambridge, MA at all this summer? I am working at a summer ecology camp and I think your work and story would make a positive impression/impact on the teens.
