Ugandan Widows; Refugees in their own country

Dave Hansow

While in the process of adopting our soon-to-be daughter from Uganda, our hearts began moving there as well. We came to the point where we had seen so many needs specifically in Uganda and all throughout Africa that we decided rather abruptly to simply move there and understand the plight first hand. In this process we started a non-profit called Light Gives Heat with the intention of being quick to listen and slow to act. It's written our website best,
"Light Gives Heat started with a group twenty-something’s desiring to live differently. We were challenged by so many beautiful people we had met, seen and read about; the desire to live intentionally outward was put into action with a move to Uganda and a chance to live differently."
So we are twenty somethings desiring to live intentionally outward... We currently offer a consistent income through our Suubi (hope) initiative in Southeastern Uganda where weekly have volunteers purchasing necklaces for us, along with running literacy classes, and English classes. In the States we have a desire to tell our story well through film, art, and music. Half of our goal has always been to inspire Americans to act, and not simply be a means to and end, but an end in themselves.
