About Me

I am a World Champion Kayaker. At 15 I won over $4,000 of prize money and donated it to Non Profit in Uganda. After visiting Africa 5x I am now officially addicted to giving. After raising over $25,000 I have helped create a Malaria Clinic, refurbished a school and plan on building a well. I live by the words; we must be the change we wish to see in the world.

  • Hey Everyone! I just got home and have so much stuff to share on my amazing trip in Uganda! Cant belive how quick it went! The Coloring book is being put into every school that Soft Power Education has re done which is around 30 primary schools. The schools are all over uganda, not all in the Jinja area, some going all the way to Murchison and further. Thne children that go to these schools come from all over as well. The changes i have noticed since my last trip is insane, there are more to count then i could have even imagined. Part of it is simply being older and more aware of the things around me. Secondly the word on how you get malaria is so much more well known its shocking. All the net sales i went on previous trips, most people had no idea how they get malaria. Now someone from one village we went to visits another and says you need to have these people come and sell you nets, and now we have calls everyday! Its nice to see improvement. The reason i believe in supporting Soft Power Health so much is because i belive everyone deserves equal oppurtunities. I want people to have the oppurtunity to know what is the largest killer of their Children in Uganda and have an oppurtunity to actually fight it. Also want them to have oppurtunities to save money and be rewarded for working hard. People who work hard and have alot of kids cant save their money because all the money goes towards treatment, but if their kids are safe under the net, the chances of them spending all their money is much rarer. Also the families that dont make enough money dont have to sit by and watch their kids die. So very very cool stuff and i have photos coming up, i just dont know how to make them smaller before i load them on here..... and thanks Rachel for the offer! We got it finished and i hope to have photos of a finished copy soon! We ended up doing two versions, starting with a smaller kids version and we are going to do one for Highschool kids one day soon!

  • Hey Rachel I am 100% against the use of Malaria medications and I was stating that $20 Million dollars is how much the Country of Uganda spends on the medications. I have visited Uganda and Kenya several times and the medication's such as Malarone and Chloroquine and Mefloquin, all which the mosquitos have built a resistence to in Uganda. The problem with spraying anything once and year in Uganda is the amount of water they have. They will spray anything that is theres but they wont spray anything else because they honestly dont know how they get Malaria. BEcause they only come out at night they best thing we believe people can do is sleep under a mosquito net. Which if you click on our website you will see is exactly what we do. After we do our educations sessions we sell nets at around $3 USD and we lose $7 per net. Also as far as Kenya having malaria, i am aware of the few cases and most are on the Ugandian border. Kenya loses 34,000 children a year while Uganda loses over 1 Million. Thanks for all your concerns and sorry if i made it sound like i supported medication while i most cerntaintly dont. Just trying to let people know how much they are spending on treatment. Luckily we have our own health clinic where we treat it cheaper and make sure each person is educated on how they got it and how they can prevent it. And we offer to sell them a net from the clinic. I will look into ICON but Uganda just has so much random water and the town I base out of is on the nile so there wont be any spraying available there! Emily
