About Me

Hey! My name is K-wal and I am a twenty-three year resident of Boston. I went to Boston Latin School, class of 2004, and I just graduated from Boston College in May 2008. When I was at BC, I led the student environmental group Ecopledge, volunteered in Weirwood,VA with the Appalachia Volunteers during my spring and summer breaks, and served as Environmental Director in the Undergraduate Government. My work experience includes internships with the Urban Ecology Institute and the BC Director of Sustainability. My greatest passion is for environmental issues, with a specific focus on urban ecology and environmental justice. I got interested in these issues through classes at BC and through spending a summer inventorying all the street trees in Boston for Grow Boston Greener. I am motivated by the incredible drive and passion of Boston environmental justice and environmental youth groups who are working tirelessly to make Boston a healthier and safer city for its residents. I hope my involvement with Changents will serve as one more piece of Boston's environmental justice movement.

  • Tanya, You are an inspiration to the rest of us to get up off our butts!! Keep going girl! Also, are you going to be near Boston/Cambridge, MA at all this summer? I am working at a summer ecology camp and I think your work and story would make a positive impression/impact on the teens.

  • Congratulations girls, I was hoping you would win! This will be a great way to recycle, reuse, beautify the city, educate the city, and allow residents to be involved in creating something great for their neighborhoods.
